The Tree Shrew Song

Get Flash to see this player.

Thought I'd already posted this. So.

Once upon a Christmastime as many as two decades ago, I got sick of hearing the Chipmunk Song every time I turned on the radio or went shopping for presents. Having just rewatched the David Lynch movie Blue Velvet, as well as over-exposed to Hanson's "Mmm-Bop" the summer before and bleeding well into Christmas, I decided to work out my frustrations and wrote this song for Radio Free Chaos to record. So we did.

This one gets pretty dark, folks. Merry Christmas in July! (Even though it's June. Stop judging me!)

Verse 1:

Christmas for insectivores
Can be really quite a chore
Searching for bugs in frosty snow
Looking for fruit that will not grow
We don’t know how we’re going to survive
I could consume anything alive
We must eat thirty times our weight
On every Christmas day

Verse 2:

Christmas will be great this year
Filled with our special brand of fear
Children crying, puppies dying
Dave on a pyre slowly frying
Just like that guy in “Blue Velvet,” Frank Booth
I could fuck anything that moves
Don’t you fucking look at me!
Mommy! Mommy!

The Tree Shrew Song
Sounds like fun, although I'm struggling a bit to understand all the words, so don't really get the narrative. I gather, though, that those shrews are misbehaving?

Great fun
and really well done. Very clever and well written.

Wonderfully subversive and I loved the Blue Velvet and de Niro references.
