Lyrics
© 2019 John Heavern, Gravity

V1
Weight of the world pressuring me,
darkness pollutes tomorrows I see.
Tightening chains, buckling brain,
gravity binds at blinding speed.
Drastic measures tossing my soul,
stolen treasure, loss of control.
Crumbling care, sunken despair,
gravity’s chasm swallows my passions whole.
Ch
Pressures abound, apathy found,
emptiness bleeds in sorrows I drown.
Gravity preys, clarity fades,
spiraling down a malevolent maze.
Gravity raining pestilence down,
forces invading sensitive ground.
Nothing preparing my view from the haze,
gravity scary in a future ablaze!
Br
Nothing’s getting through
gravity’s disconnecting views.
Dread confusing circumstances,
head of understanding’s lanced.
Gravity wins in games it plays,
forcing me down, sanity strays.
Comprehension’s not in command,
soul in my throat with my head in my hands.
V2
Past concessions carry regret,
snatch depression into it’s net.
Hollow inside, swallowing pride,
gravity wears a numb silhouette.
Emptied emotions filling with pain,
heart floats heavy, tension insane.
Mentally mobbed, will bein’ robbed,
gravity grows, dissension driven brain!
Ch
Pressures abound, apathy found,
emptiness bleeds in sorrows I drown.
Gravity preys, clarity fades,
spiraling down a malevolent maze.
Gravity raining pestilence down,
forces invading sensitive ground.
Nothing preparing my view from the haze,
gravity scary in a future ablaze!
OUTRO:
Heart in a pyre of torn sacrifice,
faith and desire a foreign device.
Feelings betrayed, makin’ me pay,
gravity charging ultimate price.
Destinies close, frozen in grief,
death on it’s toes, showing it’s teeth.
Mind can create staggering weights,
flashes of fate cannot escape my state of
gra-vi-ty!

Cheers
I like electric piano, but I find the Apple one a bit weedy. Mixbus is able to beef it up, fortunately.

Gravitons aint real!
Just find one mate, even at that fancy multi billion dollar particle race track one can not be found. So gravity could be electrical in nature. That would certainly suit this tune. The evidence is clear, great playing and production.

Reply lost due to excess gravity
It's a song about mental illness, so I will leave the "what is gravity?" conundrum to the boffins. Thanks for listening, Daug.

Love the MOOD herein. Beautifully arranged and performed Graham. Excellent dark instrumental break...

Outstanding in every way!

Crushing
is what I was after, especially in the dark instrumental. Logic's trombones really worked well there. Thanks for listening.

Sorry, I accidentally deleted.
Yes, I can play chords and a bit of twiddling. The arp does most of the work!

No prob!
RE the arps: I have to cheat a bit when I play keys. But it's all about getting what you hear in your head down into a tune, isn't it?

Absolutely
The arp is a lifesaver, and an interesting thing in and of itself.

As you can see, I was selective. I believe you have to be for a song, otherwise what can the music contribute?

Atmospheric
and mood setting. You can feel the suspension within the mind. This final version turned out 10x better than the earlier version. Shows the progress.

Glad you think so. It took weeks. The coda nearly didn't make it, as it didn't seem to fit in the body of the song. But I realised it works as a calm aftermath.

Man there are so many different parts and things going on but the glue is the vocals with are sung with precision like it a lot . the horns are heavy against that guitar. Excellent all around

Thank you
The vocals were the hardest part. Once I'd picked out the bits to sing, I had to remove the sibilance by clipping the ends of words, rerecording sections, and taking out bits of double - tracking.

Wow!
Loving this Graham! Loving all the counter-parts - it's quite complex, and most enjoyable. I'm definitely impressed with this tour de force. Instrumentation and vocals are beautifully done, and it's all sounding very authentically prog rock. The ending could have gone much longer for me - was it meant to end so abruptly?
Anyway - Love it!
Cheers from Oz,

The abrupt ending was Tom's idea. I think it works well - just as you're soothed by the coda, it's gone. I like the hefty feel of the body of the song, especially the horn section. There's a nice rasp to them. Thanks for the kind words.

Praise indeed.
A boatload went in, from the acoustic origins to rerecording of vocals. Many rerecordings. Lots of rerecordings. Multiple - you get the picture. Thanks for listening, Vic.

Cheers, Hounds.
Two lead guitars, one soaked in reverb, the other dry for clarity. Guitar histrionics didn't fit so I kept it as simple as possible. The sampled horns did much of the heavy lifting. Thanks for listening, guys.
