Description
Ghosts and other paranormal thingamabobs sometimes entered my head when I was younger, and one day recently, I got a glimmer of something a little odd - nicknamed him "The Disappearing Man". Also a reference to me losing a lot of weight over the past year or three. There's also a reference to getting older and becoming more "invisible" in the real world.
I'm playing/singing everything here.

The Disappearing Man
© Nov 2018 Neil Porter

INTRO: Asus2 Em

VERSE 1:
| Asus2 | Asus2 Em |
You won’t see the disappearing man
| Asus2 | Asus2 Em |
He moves about like shifting sand
Asus2#5
His visibility is getting low
A7sus2
You won’t see him anywhere you go
| Asus2| Asus2 Em | Asus2| Asus2 Em |
Asus2#5
He gets around everywhere he can
A7sus2
You won’t see the disappearing man
| Asus2| Asus2 Em | Asus2| Asus2 Em |

VERSE 2:
Sightseeing on a moonless night
There’s not a single soul in sight
Things just go from bad to worse
He’s living with the pharaoh's curse
He gets around everywhere he can
You won’t see the disappearing man

CHORUS:
Asus4#5
He’s just waiting ’til the time is right
Cadd9
He’s just waiting ’til the dead of night
Bb (with open top E)
Gonna be there when the warm winds blow
Gonna be there when it starts to snow
Asus4#5
He’s just waiting ’til the time is right
Cadd9
He’s just waiting ’til the time is right
Bb (with open top E)
He’s just waiting ’til the time is right
He’s just waiting ’til the dead of night

SOLO (on verse) x2

CHORUS:

VERSE 3:
You might hear the disappearing man
He’s been here since time began
You’ll hear him when you’re all alone
He moves in and out of the twilight zone
He gets around everywhere he can
You won’t see the disappearing man

CHORUS: x2

Disappearing
Catchy tune and very nice documentation, BTW. I really like knowing what chords were used to achieve that special sound.

troubadour tradition!
Enjoyed this outing here, solid in the tradition of the songster and street poet and contemporary at the same time, not easy to do people!
Thank you for sharing your songs here, you keep the bar high!

One thought is about EQ on the vox.
Might need a bit of low mid rolled off the lead vocal to help set it apart from the bass. Presence. I like it though.

Vox/bass distinction
Thanks for the comment Fred - I'd noticed the issue, but never got around to fixing it. Great to have some good ears listening closely.
Cheers from Oz,

It's the Jiguma smack!
Even over my MacBook Pro's weenie speakers, this has impact and presence. One has the sense that, even with my limited-fidelity medium, the whole song is being represented.

I think you did an awesome job on the vocals here, and I really like the guitar solos. (ARE those guitar solos? Or done with the keyboard?) I once again hear some touches of Bruce Cockburn in the lyrical turns and phrasing, even though it's still distinctively you in approach.

Are you fingerpicking here on the acoustic, or doing this with a pick?

I'm always impressed that, skilled and experienced bass player that you are, you don't overplay the bass parts, but rather put them in the pocket and support the song.

I think you've written a really good song, here, Neil, and that, in the final reckoning, is the most important part. I really like this. Good one.

Smack!
Hi Ed, thanks for the comment.
Acoustic is finger picked, and the solos are done on the Tele.
I have to say that even just posting this has given me some inspiration to get back to doing more solo recordings and using limited time more effectively.
Cheers from Oz,
N

Well...
I love thinking you're getting back into writing and recording your own stuff. Very cool.

That 'using limited time more effectively' thing, that's the bit right there...

Shuffle
Hey Neil good to hear a new song from you and what a great shuffle beat. This one creates such a wonderful slightly menacing atmosphere. Liked the keyboard coming in at the end. cheers Mark

Worth the wait!
Music is sublime. Lyrics are a treat.

"Livin' with the pharaoh's curse"!

Cool delay on those prickly lead licks...
