Description
"There are more people dying these days..." (a quote attributed to Zora Neale Hurston)

I composed this Shakespeare Sonnet 73 song in 2006. At the time I wrote, "Over the last year (2006) I have had one friend die of cancer and three others enter the battle against that dread disease. Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare gripped me when I read it, as it elegantly addresses the topic of getting old and facing the days when death is not too far off."
It seems this is even more true today.

Originally posted in 2006 and taken down in 2008. A collab version by Richard Schletty and myself is found here:

Lyrics
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.

In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.

In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire
Consumed with that which it was nourish'd by.

This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

Sonnet 73, William Shakespeare

Great Job!
If one hangs around long enough, when finds that everyone one once considered "cool" has departed. I am nearly there... Jeff Beck better stay alive somehow...
My grandmother, when she reached the age of 105, informed me she no longer understood what anyone was doing, or, what occupied their minds. This frightened her because she thought the whole lot of everyone were mad as hatters. She wanted to be with people who thought and valued as she did... sadly she had outlived the consciousness of her generation.
As moderns live longer, and consciousness is altered and molded with greater ease, the point where all of what is "cool" vanishes into the night comes sooner than death to more people. This is the modern tragedy: to outlive your vision of cool and have no loved ones alive to recall it...

Time ain’t on our side. Thanks for dropping in.
I still haven’t done anything more with that tune (as you could’ve guessed). Don’t think it’s good song material. Maybe the muse will reawaken. Oh well... cheers

Very sad news
about Dava. Just when one thinks life is secure it becomes so fleeting. I do feel for you, his other friends and family as you all grieve his unexpected death.

Indeed, Warren...
Many of us are closer to our final day in this life than not. Someone once said that nothing focuses the mind like the approach of one’s death. Shakespeare delivers that truth with with amazing poignancy. Thanks for listening to this oldie from an MJ oldie.
