Lyrics
2019 John Heavern, Spider's Web

V1
Guardians of galaxies
spinning webs of grand design.
Gravity is gathering
strands of silk to capture flies.
Flung around with no control,
pins and needles tempting fate.
Spiders web has taken hold,
hemispheres accumulate.
Ch
Spider's web and we're in it's lap,
a solar, systematic trap.
Spin around in designed rotation,
grinnin’ proud from a fly’s location.
Razor's edge, humanity floats,
so long as nothing rocks the boat.
Delicately, life awaits:
Spider’s web we just can’t shake.
V2
Drift within the Milky Way,
following a plotted course.
Gotta’ spin another day:
fragile place is life’s resource.
Wonders of the world abound,
time inflicts contingencies.
Hidden secrets never found
wrapped around true destiny.
OUTRO:
Growing from it's own domain,
Spider and it’s web will die.
Skys will always slightly change,
universal laws apply.

It's not very good.
I'll redo it when I get chance. I need a crap guitar with a high action! Thanks for the encouragement, Charlie.

John thinks this is Gilmourlike (the slide, I would think), but it seems more Syd to me.

Thank you, Kenta
It's challenging working with someone else's lyrics, but it works well when it works.

Very 70s
Loved the slide.

Lyrics are very of the period as well.

Something that maybe Gentle Giant might have written if I'm not getting them confused with another band of the time.

Lots going on and lots to like.

Cheers

I think John goes for Floyd lyrics wherever he can, but Giant did grandiose lyrics on The Power and the Glory (One of their best). I actually tried to simplify the arrangement here! The backing vocals are Frank Zappa's flies.

The flies
that go, "Nyah, nyah!" are not very Meddle, but Syd would have approved. Thanks, Vic.

Vic's "Meddle" comment nailed it!
This sounds sooooooooooooo cool man! The voices you're using on your keys are magic, and those Harrison-esque lead licks are to die for...

Two YUMS up! :-)

I borrowed some phrasings from George's slide outro to "Cheer Down". Thanks, Michael.

I can imagine a PF version of this. Cool post. As an aside, I saw Gentle Giant in a small hall in Mannheim in '76 - talk about multi-instrumentalists! A very memorable night of complex music.
Cheers from Oz,

I was utterly gobsmacked by GG in Brum circa '76. The audienced gasped when the fairy lights went on. 40 years later, I realised that the drum set that all five members played was the beat to the melody of "The Runaway."

Web-smacked
Nice meditation on the cosmos we are stuck in (the sider's web metaphor for the spinning solar system and gravity is brilliant).

The sound track has a wonderful complexity to it. Love all of those textured guitars. It's all done up in great style. Hmmm .. I think I'll go back and listen to it again!
